Little old Scamp

This is little Scamp who is making a great recovery following an abdominal surgery on December 8th. Scamp had recently been acquired by his new owner after his original family had to move interstate. His new mum adores Scamp and wants to ensure her canine friend is always healthy so she presented him for his regular check up at Blackburn Veterinary Centre at the end of November.

At over 9 years of age, Scamp is one of our many senior clients. His owner recognises that many disease states are sub-clinical (or hidden) in our senior pets and follows our recommendation to bring Scamp in every six months for his wellness check.

At his checkup in November Dr Andrew Sellars-Jones discovered a suspicious lump on Scamp's spleen. After further assessments, surgery was performed to remove the lump which to everyone's relief turned out to be benign. Scamp's story highlights the importance of regular health checks especially for senior pets over the age of eight. Early detection is the key to ensuring the best outcome for our pets. Well done Scamp and Scamp's mum!
