Daisy's blood loss

Daisy is a young Cavoodle who recently visited us as she was vomiting and passing diarrhoea with blood in it. When she was examined, Daisy was found to be quite depressed and dehydrated. She had deteriorated quite quickly throughout the day and had lost a significant amount of fluid.

Blood was taken and tested to assess for internal changes to Daisy, and she was promptly placed on intravenous fluids, antibiotics and pain relief.

The concern in cases such as Daisy is not only fluid loss, but also blood and blood protein loss via this type of diarrhoea. Without treatment, Daisy’s condition could have become life-threatening, and during recovery, she required close monitoring and assessment of certain blood parameters.

Fortunately, Daisy recovered promptly and responded very well to treatment. She was discharged a day later and is now back to her playful self.
