At The Blackburn Vet we feel strongly about not only pet health but educating our community on how to be safe and healthy around pets. One way we do this is by our PET PEP (People Educating People) program. We visit primary schools and kindergartens to expose young children to animals and discuss how to be safe around them and ensure both you and your pet are as healthy as possible.
We also discuss the Veterinary Industry as a career opportunity and some of the things we do at the clinic on a daily basis. The children love the opportunity to interact with a real animal and get to listen to their heart and give them a pat too. We also give the children the chance to dress up as a veterinary surgeon, ready to help an injured animal.
Recently we visited Larch Street Kindergarten and had the privilege of going through this program with their two 4 year old kinder groups. Nurse’s Tara and Penny went along with Tara’s Greyhound Jen. It was Jen’s first visit and she loved it. We are looking forward to running this program at more of our local schools in the future!
